Apple is reportedly close to sealing a $1 billion partnership with Google to integrate the Gemini AI model into the next generation of Siri, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The collaboration marks a rare move by Apple to rely on a rival’s artificial intelligence technology, highlighting the company’s determination to catch up in the fast-evolving AI race.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest that Apple will use a custom version of Google’s Gemini AI model to power Siri’s upgraded capabilities. The deal is expected to be finalized soon, with the revamped Siri slated for launch in spring 2026.
Apple intends to use Gemini as a temporary solution while it continues developing its own advanced AI model for long-term deployment.

The report notes that Gemini’s custom version packs an impressive 1.2 trillion parameters, significantly more than Apple’s current 150 billion-parameter cloud-based AI system. This massive leap in model size means Gemini can process far more complex queries, contextual tasks, and natural language understanding compared to Apple’s in-house tools.

While Apple has traditionally preferred to develop its technologies in-house, the rapid advancements from rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic have prompted the Cupertino giant to reconsider its stance.
In recent months, Apple has reportedly explored multiple options — including potential collaborations with OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as plans to acquire Perplexity AI — but the Gemini deal appears to be its most viable path forward in the short term.

Industry analysts see this move as a strategic bridge, enabling Apple to deliver enhanced AI features across iPhones, iPads, and Macs without waiting for its internal AI infrastructure to mature. Once Apple’s proprietary model is ready, the company is expected to transition Siri away from Google’s system entirely.

The upcoming Siri overhaul is expected to integrate with Apple’s broader “Apple Intelligence” initiative, bringing features like context-aware assistance, smarter summarization, and improved conversational understanding.
If finalized, this deal could reshape how Apple approaches AI collaboration — signaling that even the world’s most secretive tech giant isn’t immune to the urgency of the AI revolution.

For now, both Apple and Google have declined to comment on the reported agreement.
