Krafton India has officially confirmed the development and upcoming launch of BGMI Lite, a streamlined and more efficient version of its widely played Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) game. Set for release by the close of 2026, BGMI Lite is designed to provide an optimized battle royale experience for gamers using devices with lower RAM and limited storage.

The introduction of BGMI Lite is poised to make a significant impact on the Indian mobile gaming scene. India’s gaming community consists of a vast range of device users, with a large segment relying on budget or entry-level smartphones. By targeting devices that offer as little as 2GB RAM, Krafton aims to open up BGMI to millions more players previously unable to enjoy the game’s standard edition.

Development Roadmap and Beta Plans

As of August 2024, Krafton India has shared updates confirming that BGMI Lite’s development is well underway. The studio revealed that the project has reached several key milestones leading up to an eventual beta testing phase. This beta test is anticipated to precede the full release, allowing Krafton to gather player feedback and address potential issues ahead of the official launch, which is expected in Q4 2026.

Meanwhile, the company is preparing to ramp up promotional campaigns and community activities starting in late 2025, building anticipation among Indian gaming enthusiasts.

Just like the original BGMI, BGMI Lite will be available free of charge. Players can look forward to in-app purchase options, mirroring the monetization approach of the standard game. This makes the game easily accessible while enabling Krafton to maintain content updates and support for both versions.

Industry experts recognize Krafton’s decision to launch BGMI Lite as a move that positions the brand competitively within the rapidly growing mobile gaming market. With other PUBG-style games vying for attention among users with entry-level devices, BGMI Lite’s arrival supports Krafton's ambition to attract new audiences and retain its current player base amid rising competition.

With development progressing and a clear launch timeline in sight, BGMI Lite could become a significant addition to India’s mobile gaming landscape. Lowering the hardware barrier means more players will have the opportunity to experience BGMI’s dynamic gameplay, further strengthening the franchise’s foothold in the country.
