Spotify is stepping into the audiobook world with an exciting new program called Spotify Audiobook Selects.

Earlier in the year, Spotify asked independent writers to send them short stories. Now, they are getting ready to publish the first 16 audiobooks from this program on November 4, 2025.

This project is a big part of Spotify’s plan to help new writers. The idea is to help indie authors reach a global audience and earn money from their stories. The company wants to give creators more chances to live off their art.

Colleen Prendergast, a leader on Spotify’s publishing team, said that the company is happy to support different authors and narrators. She explained that Spotify wants to share bold new stories with millions of listeners. The stories will be short enough to enjoy quickly.

The first set of audiobooks includes many genres, like romance, mystery, thriller, and sci-fi. One author, Stephanie Y. Yang, who wrote "Strak’s Bad Day," said she was excited to see her story made into an audiobook. Another writer, JC Savoy, whose book is "Radio Romance," said being chosen by Spotify was proof that his writing could still connect with people.

Other authors whose stories will be released include Sophie Beckett, Regan Black, Audrey J. Cole, Sasha Cottman, Carla E. Dash, Elizabeth Hrib, S.M. Levine, Adrianna Nine, Andrew C. Piazza, Tina Radcliffe, Alicia Rades, Spencer Sekulin, Jenny Williams, and Kelsea Yu.

Spotify Audiobook Selects launches, featuring first independent author releases and diverse short-form audiobooks.

People can save these audiobooks on Spotify right now so they are ready to listen as soon as they come out.

Spotify is not stopping here. They have announced another round of this program. The new submission window starts on November 4, 2025. This time, the theme is “swoon-worthy tropes” in romance stories. Writers can send in English stories, between 10,000 and 40,000 words.

Spotify is looking for popular romance themes like “friends to lovers” and “grumpy/sunshine.” Selected authors will get their audiobooks published, paid in advance, and will receive royalties too. Spotify will handle all the production and will share the audiobooks with big retailers.

Spotify hopes that this program will shape the next step for audio storytelling. Writers and fans can find more details and send in their stories by visiting the official news source at Spotify Newsroom.
