Instagram has announced a new feature called “Your Algorithm”, giving users more control over the topics they see in Reels. The company shared the update through its own posts and Reels, saying people can now “tune” their recommendations by adding or removing interest topics. This update fits into Instagram’s larger push toward transparent user controls, similar to the recently introduced Reels watch history feature that helps users revisit what they previously watched.

In an official Reel, Instagram explains that the new tool lets users adjust their interests so Reels feel more relevant over time. The company says this tuning is meant to make suggestions clearer and easier to influence. This also ties into Instagram’s efforts to improve account experiences, seen earlier with tools like the School Profile feature that offer students a dedicated way to connect.

A separate Instagram post shows how users can type in topics directly inside the Reels viewer, choosing what they want to see more of or less of. These controls appear on-screen while watching content, making it easy to adjust interests without leaving the feed. Instagram confirms that recommendations will adapt to these choices, giving users a more personal and transparent Reels experience. As Instagram continues rolling out new features, the platform is also preparing for bigger updates like the long-awaited native iPad app.

Instagram says “Your Algorithm” will first be available inside Reels, with plans to expand it across other sections of the app. The company adds that this update gives people a clearer sense of how their activity shapes the content they see, making Instagram feel more responsive to user preferences.
